Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate 4th Year Doctor of Audiology Extern to join our team for the 2025–2026 academic year. This is a paid clinical training opportunity in a dynamic private practice setting, where you’ll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of audiologic care, including diagnostics, hearing aid fittings, balance testing, tinnitus management, and patient counseling.
Externs will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced audiologists, hearing instrument specialists, and support staff while serving a diverse patient population. The role may involve working at a single clinic location or rotating between multiple offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive audiologic evaluations for patients of all ages
- Perform hearing aid fittings, real-ear verification, adjustments, and follow-ups
- Administer and interpret vestibular/balance assessments
- Provide tinnitus evaluations and counseling
- Educate patients and families on hearing loss, hearing aid use, and communication strategies
- Maintain accurate, timely, and HIPAA-compliant patient records
- Collaborate with providers, support staff, and community partners
- Participate in community outreach and educational events as needed
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program
- Eligible for a 4th year externship placement (2025–2026 academic year)
- Completion of all required academic coursework prior to start date
- Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional, compassionate, and patient-centered approach to care
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Willingness to travel between clinic locations if assigned a rotating schedule
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with vestibular testing and interpretation
- Familiarity with multiple hearing aid manufacturer software
- Prior clinical experience in a private practice or ENT setting
Compensation & Schedule
- $25/hour
- No benefits
- Full-time (Monday–Friday) schedule, based on clinic hours and academic requirements
