MEDICAL BILLER
We are a family owned and oriented private Audiology practice in the South Lake Tahoe, CA area, dedicated to the audiology needs of newborns, pediatrics, and adults. We are seeking an experienced Medical Biller to join our growing team. This position is part-time (20 hours/week). Could transition to full-time although not guaranteed.
Minimum Requirements:
✅ Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree or certification in medical billing/coding preferred.
- MUST have Audiology billing experience
- 3+ years of medical billing experience, particularly in a California healthcare setting.
- Prior experience working with California Medi-Cal billing and authorization processes (required).
- Familiarity with commercial insurance and managed care plans.
✅ Technical Skills
- Proficiency in medical billing software, ideally ClaimMD
- Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
- Working knowledge of EDI transactions, remittance advice (ERA/EOB), and claim denial resolution.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) for tracking AR and aging reports.
✅ Job-Specific Knowledge
- Insurance verification and eligibility checks (including real-time eligibility portals).
- Pre-authorization and referral coordination with payers.
- In-depth knowledge of California Medi-Cal policies and procedures, including Treatment Authorization Requests (TARs).
- Understanding of AR follow-up procedures (commercial, government, self-pay).
- Experience handling aging reports (30, 60, 90, 120+ days) and initiating follow-up on unpaid claims.
✅ Communication & Organizational Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, providers, and patients.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced billing environment.
- Proactive in resolving claim issues and reducing aged AR.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from AAPC or AMBA (e.g., Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS)).
- Audiology specific CPT codes and billing experience
